Treatment options depend on...
There are 3 types of treatments
- Spinal maturity
- Degree and extent of the curvature
- Location of curve (upper spine is more likely to progress)
- Potential for progression- Large curves prior to adolescent growth will more likely experience curve progression
There are 3 types of treatments
- Observation- For patients with small spinal curves.
- Orthopedic bracing- If the patient is still growing and has a spinal curve of about 25 to 40 degrees. It keeps the spine from getting worse while growing, but it does not reduce the curve
- Surgery- For more severe cases. It corrects scoliosis and prevents it from getting worse. There are different approaches: Anterior, Posterior, Bone Grafts, and Thoracoplasty
